SFU Plus 55 Course: Wrongful Convictions, The Black Hole in the Legal System

This website will serve as a support for the course I am coordinating in 2020 at SFU from February 24-March 30 (six Mondays from 9:30-11:20 a.m.)

The title of the course refers to the way a wrongly convicted person can enter the legal system and literally disappear from the outside world, caught up in a web of legal shenanigans worthy of a Charles Dickens novel. Emerging from prison after decades, the victim is, usually without support or resources, sent out into a world he or she no longer understands. They have entered the black hole and miraculously emerged but in a different solar system or universe. Or he or she never does emerge, a far likelier situation.
